Cheering Up Mondays #516

There’s been a long wait for this week’s cheerful flower.

Akebia quinata or chocolate vine.

I planted this Akebia quinata a couple of years ago but it has taken until now for it to produce these lovely chocolate coloured flowers that have a faint scent of vanilla. Well worth the wait!

  1. I have the white version of this: yes, it’s lovely but it’s also a thug! Don’t turn your back on it …

    1. Thanks for the warning. However, very little gets to thuggish proportions on my soil – bar bindweed!

  2. The blackbirds nest in mine every year, and in my mother’s garden in Somerset hers produced fascinating, pale mauve seed pods with very sweet seeds inside.
