A special daffodil and a feast of gardening talks will launch the new season at Highgrove.
A new daffodil will be brightening the grounds of Highgrove this spring as part of the celebrations of the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday.
Narcissus ‘Duke of Rothesay’ was named in honour of Prince Charles by bulb company de Jager and 4,500 bulbs were planted in the Prince’s Gloucestershire garden last autumn.
The new flower is a brilliant white cyclamineus daffodil with a yellow trumpet, which flowers in mid-April.
The firm, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, is an appointed supplier of flower bulbs to HRH The Prince of Wales.
“We were thrilled when we were invited to name a brand new daffodil variety in honour of the Prince’s birthday,” said George Clowes, owner of de Jager.
