Something a little different for today’s flower.
One bulb in a batch of Tulipa ‘Louvre Orange’ has produced a flower like this. It’s likely to be a form of ‘breaking’, although Bloms Bulbs assure me it’s not the result of the virus that was a main cause of the tulip mania that swept the world in the 17th century.
Broken tulips are now illegal in the Netherlands as growers are worried about it spreading to other bulbs. I’ll be keeping this bulb and the others in that pot in ‘quarantine’, just in case, before they go out in the garden.
